  • A huge congratulations to this incredible family! 💙This is the third time I’ve had the honor of supporting them through birth... but the first as their primary midwife. And somehow, each time, I’ve been the one to catch their sweet baby 🍼✨Their first arrived during a major snowstorm—the primary midwife didn’t make it in time (I barely did, with just 5 minutes to spare!). The second came FAST in the middle of summer... again, just me flying solo. (9 min to spare.) This newest little one had me a little extra jumpy. Contractions were steady at 6-7 minutes apart, so instead of driving home after volleyball, I cozied up on their couch next to their amazingly warm wood-burning stove 🔥 Dad woke Birth Assist Michelle and I, and about an hour later, their beautiful baby was born into my hands.I feel so grateful to witness this family grow—in love, in joy, in numbers. Watching their story unfold has been such a gift. ❤️Congrats to you all—your home is filled with even more magic now.#HomeBirth #MidwifeLife #BirthStories #GreenStorkMN #BlessedToCatchBabies

I knew I was asking more—educating, encouraging tests, supplements, dietary changes, and closer follow-ups—than they were used to.Toward the end of pregnancy, both mom and dad shared how thankful they were. ‘This is the first pregnancy (out of 16) that we haven’t needed iron transfusions.’ Hearing that they understood and valued our work together meant the world to me.This was also their first birth in a long time without Rebekah Knapp. After the birth, we shared a few stories. I didn’t know Rebekah on a personal level; our working relationship was new when she passed, but she was the one who launched my involvement in the northern Minnesota birth community. When she learned I was a CLC, she practically begged me to take on her clients. We shared her Bemidji office for about six months. When she passed away, I helped her family clear out the office we shared and stepped in as a birth assistant for the many clients left without their midwife. That led me to begin my midwifery education. My husband and I planned to take it slow, 5-10 years, finishing by the time our kids were grown. But God had other plans. Less than three years later, I passed my boards. It’s been a dream come true, and I still pinch myself. Catching this little one brought me back to the beginning of my work ‘up north’. I didn’t have a personal relationship with Rebekah, but I hope she’s looking down, proud of how I’ve served her clients. This family chose to name their daughter after her. What an honor. 💞#homebirth #GreenStorkMN #MidwiferyCare #NorthernMNMidwife #Blessed
  • Midwives often call the birth tub the “Midwife’s Epidural” — and it truly works wonders! 🌊✨Getting into warm water during labor can be a game-changer, offering natural relief and support exactly when you need it most. Here’s why so many mamas swear by it:💦Powerful pain relief — The warm water soothes contractions, relaxes muscles, boosts endorphins (your body’s natural painkillers), and reduces the need for epidurals or other meds.
💦Deep relaxation & less anxiety — It lowers stress hormones, calms your mind, and helps you feel more in control and present.
💦Buoyancy magic — Feeling weightless eases pressure on your body, lets you move freely into comfortable positions, and supports better baby positioning for smoother progress.
💦Shorter labor — Many studies show it can speed up the first stage and make contractions more efficient with improved blood flow and oxygenation.
💦More energy & comfort — Conserves your strength between waves, reduces tearing risks in some cases, and often leads to higher satisfaction with your birth experience. We can prep, plan, and prep some more — but labor is unpredictable until it hits. Just always remember you are so much stronger than you know! 💪❤️This incredible couple proved it: Even when doubts crept in for Mom, Dad was her rock — holding her, staying ever present, drawing on his strength to help her through. 💚 Behind the Scenes of The Green Stork Midwifery team 💚It might not look like much — just two plates — but behind them are the incredible men and families who keep The Green Stork Midwife team going strong.January has been full of long nights and little sleep, but our husbands have truly stepped up in every way: keeping the house running, wrangling the kids so we can rest, brewing strong coffee, making protein-packed meals, and prepping our home office so we can grab whatever sleep we can. ☕🍳💪When a client calls in labor, my husband jumps up just as fast as I do — coffee on, car warming up, meal ready, a quick kiss goodbye, and I’m out the door.Birth Assistant Michelle’s family even prays for every momma, every journey, and every safe delivery before she leaves. 🙏✨This really is a team effort — from the tiniest voices telling us how much they love our work to the incredible men standing behind us every step of the way. 💚To our families: thank you for fueling our passion and helping us serve our mommas with full hearts and steady hands. 🌿👶 #GreenStorkMN #MidwiferyCare #HomeBirth #FueledTeam #CaffinatedWell

Real Stories, Real Joy

“My husband and I welcomed our second child in October 2018. Becca was our Doula and our experience was wonderful! Before the birth she met with us to prepare- getting to know us and our preferences for labor/birth, etc. She was very professional, yet personable, and you could tell she is very passionate about what she does – being that extra line of support and knowledge for expecting Mothers (and Dads, too!).

During labor, it was so encouraging to to have her with us, giving me gentle reminders to breathe naturally, massage, getting what we needed when we needed it- ASAP (including hospital staff, if they left the room).

My husband felt more confident with her helping us, because he could better focus on me – helping me moment to moment with each contraction. Becca was able work together with him during contractions while still keeping an eye on the bigger picture – where we were in the process and how things were going overall.

In the recovery room, my nurse told me she had a positive and encouraging experience working with Becca. The way she described it conveyed that she appreciated Becca’s attitude of working together with the hospital staff as a team for the same purpose – healthy mom, healthy baby, and a positive birth experience.”

"My wife deeply appreciated the caring and personal service that Steph provided for our growing family. I have been through childbirth five times with my wife, two of them home births, and I have seen a range of personalities among the doulas, midwives, nurses, and doctors who have helped us. Steph is simply extraordinary. She took the time to get to know us, she provided the support we desired, but she also knew when to withdraw into the sidelines and let my wife’s labor take its natural course.

As a husband, I wanted to be as hands on as possible, but the fact of the matter is that one person can only do so much. I would recommend to other husbands that money spent on a doula is well spent, since it always helps to have another set of hands to refill a water bottle or massage a laboring mother’s back or handle any of the thousand other little things that come up along the way. Steph did all of these things and more, always with a sense of calm and gentle encouragement."

"My wife and I welcomed our first baby, Graham, into this world with the help of Becca. We could not have been happier with the comfort and support that Becca provided both of us throughout the process. Becca is professional and passionate about her work, and we were amazed at her level of commitment to us throughout a long and stressful labor. Both of us highly recommend Becca, and we’ll surely have her with us for round 2 whenever that may be!”

“…As all parents know, life doesn’t happen how we think it may. Babies are full of many surprises and have their own schedule. After an amazingly smooth pregnancy, Alicia went into labor 6 weeks early. We were in disbelief and shocked, this couldn’t’ be happening. Steph was the first person I called. She advised us to head to the hospital and kept in contact along the way. After realizing the labor was not slowing down, the doctors decided it would be best to transport Alicia to Rochester. Again we were in disbelief and struggled with the fact that Alicia would be laboring in the ambulance alone, while I rushed home to grab a few things and then drive to Rochester. But again, Steph was there. She reassured me that our birth story would still be beautiful and that Rochester is an amazing place to give birth. She offered to drive and meet us in Rochester to continue leading us through our birth journey.

She not only met us there, she lead me down the highway, into town, to the parking ramp and up to Alicia’s room. In this midst of all the unknowns, worries and fear, Steph was there to put us at ease.

She was an incredible coach through labor and helped Alicia to reach her goal of having an all natural birth. She also made sure I was taken care of with food and hydration throughout the morning. Steph did a wonderful job of photographing of our birth story as well. The memories she captured will be cherished forever.

Looking back, I can’t imagine our birth story without Steph.

From the early days of learning techniques in her class, to capturing our first family photos, Steph made our birth story an amazing experience. She is living her passion and we are eternally grateful she is our Doula.”
