  • ✨ Today was extra fun at The Green Stork.💚A beautiful mama came in for her SneakPeek early gender DNA test — it’s a magical little blood draw that can tell you if you’re welcoming a boy or a girl as early as 6 weeks, with over 99% accuracy.Tomorrow she’ll, already, get the news that will make her heart skip a beat. Pink or blue? The sweet anticipation is everything. 💕There’s something so tender about that first real “hello” to your baby’s identity — even before you feel the flutters or see them on the ultrasound screen. It makes the pregnancy feel that much more real for those family members not carrying baby inside. At The Green Stork, we love being part of these milestone moments. Whether you’re planning a home birth, need lactation support, or simply want gentle, personalized midwifery care, we’re here for all of it — the big reveals and the everyday care in between. • With a tender heart and so much care, I wanted to share that we now have a few sacred openings in our midwifery calendar for September and October.Life sometimes shifts in ways we don’t expect. Some of our beautiful families have recently moved to new places, and others are quietly walking the difficult path of loss. In honoring each of those journeys with deep respect and compassion, space has opened for new families who are longing for midwifery care this fall.If you are expecting between late summer and early autumn and your heart is calling for warm, personalized, and truly supportive care-someone who will listen, hold space, and walk beside you with knowledge, faith and skill—we would be so honored to welcome you.Our practice has always been rooted in trust, and the belief that every pregnancy and birth deserves to be met with reverence. Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, whether you’re planning a home birth or simply seeking midwifery-centered prenatal and postpartum support, we are here with open arms and open hearts and would love to get to know you. Please reach out if this feels like it might be the right fit for your family. We will take time to talk, answer every question, and make sure you feel truly seen and cared for from the very first conversation.Feel free to share this with anyone you know who may be quietly hoping for midwifery support this season.

  • This sweet little lady decided to surprise us all with an earlier arrival! The day before she was born, her mama was in the clinic and said with a smile, “I hope I don’t see you until next week!” So when she called me at 3 a.m. saying she was having contractions and her water had broken, I couldn’t help but giggle remembering her words. This was their first home birth, and it was such a beautiful one. We stayed in close contact throughout the morning. When her husband asked me to “slowly make my way over,” I quickly wrapped up my morning prenatal, while my amazing husband (the man behind the stork) packed the car. On the way, I even stopped to do a weight check and offer feeding support to a one-week-old and her mama. When I arrived, this strong mama was laboring beautifully with her husband’s loving support. We started filling the birth pool while I quietly prepared all the supplies. Second-time mamas often move quickly once things pick up, and she seemed so much more at ease knowing I was there. At 1:51 in the afternoon, she gently pushed her precious daughter into the world — right into her daddy’s steady hands. He brought her straight to mama’s chest for that beautiful first cuddle.Welcome to the world, Miss Andie Clarice!
Born at 1:51 pm • 6 lbs 14 oz • 21½ inches longBecause she chose a mid-week arrival, I was able to stop and check on another expecting family on my way home — and I only had to reschedule one craniosacral session. Every single mama and baby on the schedule still got seen that day.It always amazes me how everything just seems to fall into place. We were all especially grateful she didn’t decide to come during Easter weekend… with the massive snowstorm we had, I’m pretty sure I would have needed a tractor, snowmobile, and the icehouse sled just to reach them!Congratulations to this beautiful family on their sweet new addition. 💕

  • The first week back from vacation was wonderfully packed! 🌟I had the incredible opportunity to spend the weekend training with a group of amazing midwives and learning from the @globalmidwife64, Kristine Lauria, in her Advanced Twin and Breech Birth training. It was an experience I’m deeply grateful for. I can’t recommend this training highly enough! Kristine led us through a comprehensive deep dive into breech birth, including normal labor patterns, emergency scenarios, and peer reviews. As a provider, it was emotionally & physically intense to repeatedly discuss challenging situations, but that’s exactly what builds the skills and confidence we need. We also had the chance to practice critical maneuvers to assist mothers and babies when needed.
The experience was truly unmatched & I’m so grateful for her knowledge. 💚#Midwifery #BreechBirth #TwinBirth #HomeBirth #GreenStorkMN

He flipped and flopped between breech, transverse, breech… and finally settled head-down (cephalic) right when it mattered most.Sometimes babies dance like this as they find their space. Sometimes they’re simply waiting for mama to feel ready and at peace. After chiropractic care, beautiful bodywork, and deep processing of past birth experiences, this incredible mama stepped into her power. She brought her baby earthside exactly as she had dreamed — in the comfort and safety of her own home. Her husband was her steady rock, supporting her with so much love every step of the way.Baby arrived with a veil over his sweet face — a special, emotional touch that left not a dry eye in the room. What a powerful, healing birth. • Huge shoutout to my incredible team for giving up part of their weekend to train with me! 💚
It’s always such a joy to gather with these amazing women and sharpen our skills together. We spent the day diving deep into NRP, CPR, vitals, hemorrhage management, dystocia, and charting — staying sharp so we can continue providing the safest, highest-quality care to our families.
I’m so grateful for this team every single day!

  • Last month, I had the joy of graduating five beautiful families from our care. For some, it was the final chapter of their newborn days, while for others, it marked the exciting beginning of growing their family. Every single journey was unique, powerful, and deeply beautiful in its own way. It’s never easy saying goodbye to routine care, but I feel incredibly blessed to have walked alongside each of them over the past year. Watching these families grow, heal, and thrive has been such an honor.Thank you all for trusting me with your births and your babies 🤍

  • Our optional one-week postpartum visits are truly special! This hour-long appointment gives us dedicated time to:✅Check in and see how everyone is adjusting
✅Process your birth story
✅Take a close look at breastfeeding and offer support
Answer all your lingering questions
✅Weigh baby and track their progress
✅Talk about how mom is coping with all the beautiful (and sometimes overwhelming) changesIt’s such a meaningful moment to slow down, connect, and make sure you’re feeling supported as you step into this new chapter. 💕This beauty arrived dressed to impress and her momma couldn’t wait to snap a pic. It’s always my favorite when I get sneak a snuggle in.

  • 🌟 Daytime births are basically unicorns in the midwifery world!✨
At least that’s what we always say… until last Wednesday, when I got the best wake-up call ever: “My water broke!”We had a quick chat, both went back to sleep for a bit, and then… labor kicked in beautifully. Watching this mama bring her little one earthside was pure magic. So grateful to have Becca by my side (as always 💕) and beyond excited to welcome Taylor to the team as our newest birth assistant!
Welcome to the family, Taylor! 🥳 @taylorengelstad @becca.vd#MidwifeLife #GreenstorkMN #HomeBirth #BirthTeam #WelcomingNewLife

This sweet little man kept us all on our toes in the final weeks! Congratulations to this beautiful family! 💚 #greenstorkmn #midwiferycare #homebirth #waterbirth #strongmomma

Huge shoutout to my incredible team for giving up part of their weekend to train with me! 💚
It’s always such a joy to gather with these amazing women and sharpen our skills together. We spent the day diving deep into NRP, CPR, vitals, hemorrhage management, dystocia, and charting — staying sharp so we can continue providing the safest, highest-quality care to our families.

Last month, I had the joy of graduating five beautiful families from our care.

Our optional one-week postpartum visits are truly special!

🌟 Daytime births are basically unicorns in the midwifery world!✨
At least that’s what we always say… until last Wednesday, when I got the best wake-up call ever: “My water broke!”We had a quick chat, both went back to sleep for a bit, and then… labor kicked in beautifully.

Real Stories, Real Joy

“My husband and I welcomed our second child in October 2018. Becca was our Doula and our experience was wonderful! Before the birth she met with us to prepare- getting to know us and our preferences for labor/birth, etc. She was very professional, yet personable, and you could tell she is very passionate about what she does – being that extra line of support and knowledge for expecting Mothers (and Dads, too!).

During labor, it was so encouraging to to have her with us, giving me gentle reminders to breathe naturally, massage, getting what we needed when we needed it- ASAP (including hospital staff, if they left the room).

My husband felt more confident with her helping us, because he could better focus on me – helping me moment to moment with each contraction. Becca was able work together with him during contractions while still keeping an eye on the bigger picture – where we were in the process and how things were going overall.

In the recovery room, my nurse told me she had a positive and encouraging experience working with Becca. The way she described it conveyed that she appreciated Becca’s attitude of working together with the hospital staff as a team for the same purpose – healthy mom, healthy baby, and a positive birth experience.”

"My wife deeply appreciated the caring and personal service that Steph provided for our growing family. I have been through childbirth five times with my wife, two of them home births, and I have seen a range of personalities among the doulas, midwives, nurses, and doctors who have helped us. Steph is simply extraordinary. She took the time to get to know us, she provided the support we desired, but she also knew when to withdraw into the sidelines and let my wife’s labor take its natural course.

As a husband, I wanted to be as hands on as possible, but the fact of the matter is that one person can only do so much. I would recommend to other husbands that money spent on a doula is well spent, since it always helps to have another set of hands to refill a water bottle or massage a laboring mother’s back or handle any of the thousand other little things that come up along the way. Steph did all of these things and more, always with a sense of calm and gentle encouragement."

"My wife and I welcomed our first baby, Graham, into this world with the help of Becca. We could not have been happier with the comfort and support that Becca provided both of us throughout the process. Becca is professional and passionate about her work, and we were amazed at her level of commitment to us throughout a long and stressful labor. Both of us highly recommend Becca, and we’ll surely have her with us for round 2 whenever that may be!”

“…As all parents know, life doesn’t happen how we think it may. Babies are full of many surprises and have their own schedule. After an amazingly smooth pregnancy, Alicia went into labor 6 weeks early. We were in disbelief and shocked, this couldn’t’ be happening. Steph was the first person I called. She advised us to head to the hospital and kept in contact along the way. After realizing the labor was not slowing down, the doctors decided it would be best to transport Alicia to Rochester. Again we were in disbelief and struggled with the fact that Alicia would be laboring in the ambulance alone, while I rushed home to grab a few things and then drive to Rochester. But again, Steph was there. She reassured me that our birth story would still be beautiful and that Rochester is an amazing place to give birth. She offered to drive and meet us in Rochester to continue leading us through our birth journey.

She not only met us there, she lead me down the highway, into town, to the parking ramp and up to Alicia’s room. In this midst of all the unknowns, worries and fear, Steph was there to put us at ease.

She was an incredible coach through labor and helped Alicia to reach her goal of having an all natural birth. She also made sure I was taken care of with food and hydration throughout the morning. Steph did a wonderful job of photographing of our birth story as well. The memories she captured will be cherished forever.

Looking back, I can’t imagine our birth story without Steph.

From the early days of learning techniques in her class, to capturing our first family photos, Steph made our birth story an amazing experience. She is living her passion and we are eternally grateful she is our Doula.”
